To Prince Edward Island depicts Colville's wife Rhoda Wright on the top deck of a ferry crossing the Northumberland Strait between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The woman is facing directly towards the viewer, looking through a pair of binoculars. 

David Alexander Colville (1920-2013) was a Canadian painter and printmaker. He is often cited as belonging to the Magic Realism movement, and within this he developed his own style that influenced both a regional and national art community, as teacher and founder of what would become known as Maritime Realism.
